New Party in Stockholm, February 9-13th

Design students of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences were asked to think of surprising and fresh ideas with the theme ‘New Party’. The fruits of the brainstorm will be gathered into a laid back compilation at Greenhouse Stand VH01:22 on 9-13 February 2016. Come and meet us to enjoy the party together!

The works have been selected by jury of the Degree Programme in Design at Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. The designers are current students of industrial or textile design at Metropolia. Some recent alumni students are also present. Among the group there are award-winning designers, who have already presented their works at the Habitare Design Fair in Helsinki and at SaloneSatellite in Milan.

The designers present in Stockholm are Venla Anttila, Laura Lerkkanen, Olli Mustikainen, Sini Mäkinen, Jaakko Ranne, Sipi Rossi, Lilian Sokolova and Mikko Siponen. Greenhouse is a popular section at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair where up-and-coming designers and design schools show their prototypes to future partners, producers and customers.

List of Products

Design students have designed and made products exemplifying the theme ‘New Party’.

Lively lamp Laura Lerkkanen ja Mikko Siponen
The pendant lamp made of paper is designed and made by Laura and Mikko. The material called Paptic combines the recyclability and renewability of paper with the
functionality of plastics. The lamp consists of paper parts that are also logistically convenient because they can be transferred flat. More info about the material

Boy jar Laura Lerkkanen ja Mikko Siponen
Boy is a glass jar for any household needs. The cover the jar is airtight and provides a good grip. The inspiration of Boy lies in industrial laboratory measuring tools.

Taitos coffee measuring spoon Sini Mäkinen
Industrial design student Sini Mäkinen has designed and produced a measuring spoon. The idea was born from a garden shovel previously designed by Sini. The same form is repeated inversely in the handle and spoon parts.

Coffee maker Olli Mustikainen
Industrial desgin alumni Olli Mustikainen has designed a simplistic coffee maker (two glass parts and a filter). The idea of the product is to simplify making good coffee. The glass parts are placed on top of each other and the grounded coffee into the top part – add only hot water!

Dining table Olli Mustikainen
Olli Mustikainen has desgined also the black long dining table, that works as a backdrop for the The New Party setting.

Voog bench Lilian Sokolova
Textile design student Lilian has designed and made the Voog benches upholstered with felt. The key idea in the product is the surface structure, which can be used in several ways. In this case, the wavy surface and material has been used in the upholstery. It can also benefit making for example acoustic elements.

Also drinking glasses designed by industrial design students are on display. The glasses have been blown in Nuutajärvi, Finland.
