Fresens Concept to Tackle Food Waste Problem

Last spring a team of Industrial Design students (Miika Lehtinen, Jaakko Ranne, Marianna Salminen and Laura Lerkkanen) took park in the Biomimicry Global Design Challenge competition. This is an annual competition organized by the US Biomimicry Institute and the Ray C. Anderson foundation.

Metropolia’s team entered the competition with Fresens, which consists of a service,a mobile application and a smart biosensor. The purpose of the concept is to influence the growing food waste problem worldwide. Together with the biosensor, the Fresens application helps the consumer make sure that household food won’t turn into unnecessary waste.
