MARICKEN SHOP OY REFORMATION PLAN BY THE MEANS OF DESIGN
The subject of my thesis is an overall interior design plan for the Maricken Shop Lauttasaari. The Maricken Shop’s concept and ownership of have remained the same nearly half a century, which is why updating the look of the store is actual at this moment. In my plan, I observe the current situation of the shop both from the customers’ and the employees’ point of view. I also contemplate on the benefits of updating the space as part of the company’s brand image.
The Objectives of my plan is to update the visual environment and functionality of the space to match the company’s image and today’s requirements. Maricken Shop Turku moved to a new location in 2016, at the same time Maricken Shop Turku experienced a face lift. Updating the Helsinki shop is a natural continuation of the company’s reform plan. The research methods used in my work are highly based on user centered design. As the starting point of my planning, I used my own experience as a Maricken Shop employee and service design tool pack for solving the problems of the space. I studied the customer behavior in Maricken Shop store environment for one day. I was also in close contact with my superior at Lauttasaari store for mapping needs and wishes.
After mapping the needs and wishes, I started redesign the functions of the store layout based on the research and experience. In my thesis, I talk over the different parts of my plan and the impact of these areas on customer service experience. In my work, I talk over the entrance, windows, display, layout and service. My plan is functional and includes documentation for the implementation and visualizations of the end results of my planning. My plan is complete but needs clarifications before implementation. In the end, I analyze the actual process.
