Nature in Hospital Design – Concept for a Caring Environment

 

The focus of this bachelor’s thesis is on how to integrate nature into an hospital environment. The design focuses on designing for the waiting areas of an endoscopic unit. The base of the design is in the floorplan of the present day unit but it has been studied in terms of how to incorporate natural elements to the space to produce a more healing and supportive environment for the patients. Hence, a new floorplan is presented.

The backround studies comprise of a literary review of supportive environments and the positive effect of nature. The interviews of a hospital design expert and patients have been conducted. The thesis comprises of a floorplan, interior concept for the waiting areas and presentation of lighting principles.
